A sterile cartridge of 14 fine needles creates thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin, which prompts your body's natural repair process to produce new collagen and elastin. No heat or chemicals are involved. SkinPen was the first microneedling device to receive US FDA clearance.
Yes. SkinPen is FDA-cleared for treating facial acne scars on all skin types, Fitzpatrick I to VI. It works mechanically, with no heat or light, which is one reason practitioners often choose it for medium to deep skin tones. Your practitioner will still assess your skin at consultation.
A numbing cream is applied before treatment. Most people feel light pressure and a mild buzzing sensation, with minimal discomfort. A session takes about 30 minutes.
Skin looks red and flushed, similar to a mild sunburn, and may feel tight or dry. This usually settles within 24 to 72 hours. You can return to most daily activities within a day and wear makeup and sunscreen after 24 hours.

Yes. SkinPen uses no heat, so it can be done year-round. For the first 72 hours avoid direct sun, saunas and sweaty exercise, then make a broad-spectrum sunscreen part of your daily routine. Many patients book before a few quieter days at home.
SkinPen places its needles straight in and out at a precise, adjustable depth, uses a sealed single-use sterile cartridge for every treatment, and is used only by trained practitioners. At-home rollers and pens cannot control depth or sterility in the same way.
SkinPen is not suitable if you have active skin cancer in the treatment area, open wounds or irritated skin, an allergy to stainless steel or anaesthetics, or a bleeding disorder, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you are currently taking isotretinoin. Your practitioner will review your medical history first.
